Time Out Eating & Drinking Guide 2008

“Splendid” says Time Out guide

You don’t often find a café in London where suits and site workers, tourists and bus drivers happily mingle, but such is the unifying power of the bacon sarnie. Grazing is a part-caff, part-sandwich shop in the heart of the City that takes its meat very seriously. Order from a blackboard before taking a seat at the bench tables at the rear, which offer sufficient space to spread out your newspaper. The fried egg and black pudding sandwich served on white was a touch above the greasy-spoon norm, but satisfyingly unfussy, while dry-cured back bacon butty featured thick-cut slices. All meat is free-range and sourced from small farms. Bread comes from the Bread Factory and condiments from Tracklements. A lunchtime menu focuses on hot meat rolls – beef, pork or lamb – but there are also soups, salads and cold sandwiches, including a splendid straightforward ham, cheese and pickle doorstep. Daily specials keep things nice and varied.
